Thing 18

So I searched on Technorati for Learning 2.0. Lots of stuff comes up and its not all library stuff. I did a few other searches and I must say I didn't find anything exciting. The option for searching by tags or blog directory was not found on the site.

Thing 17: del.icio.us

So, I created a del.icio.us account and moved a bunch of my bookmarks onto it. This will make it so easy to access them from any computer. This is good. I am not sure how it will help with research, unless you search tags to see what others have bookmarked. This could be a very time consuming task if you don't know how to limit the search.
Still too new to form a good opinion yet.

Thing 16: MySpace

Would I want to create a profile on MySpace? No. Does it look easy? To create a profile seems straightforward, but jazzing it up with pictures and music? I have no clue.
I think MySpace is for people who feel really comfortable with technology and have a lot of time to spend on a computer. Definetly not me. My opinion has not altered.
I can see where it would be very popular with young people who want to make friends and express themselves. I just want a cup of tea, jammies and a good book. (and my pups)

Thing 15: Social Networks

I really can't see VBPL using MySpace to connect with teens. I think these networks are for the young and that's how they want it. It's good to know they exist and how popular they are and what they do but I personally have no interest in taking part.

Thing 14: RA Wiki

Once Matthew Robertson explained how to add to the page it was a snap! Very easy when you know how. It was interesting to read the entries of other staff members to see what folks are reading.

I could see where library teams who are working collaboratively would find wikis a terrific way to go. Also, I was very impressed with the Bull Run Library's wiki which created opportunities for customers to write reviews and opinions.

Thing 13: Wikis

The most interesting thing I found was Stephen Colbert's wiki defining librarians. Hysterical!
Looking at some of the libraries' wikis it seems that there are many ways they can be used. I think putting Adult Summer Reading Club information, including book lists would be one good way to use a wiki.
